Viceroy at Mead's Bay

We departed from Simpsons Bay on the Dutch side of St. Martin early enough in the morning to catch the draw bridge at Marina Port de Blaisance and motor to customs right away.  In order to depart from St. Martin the Smitten Kitten’s captain, Stuart, had to speed off to clear all those aboard through customs so that we could go into International seas and set sail to Anguilla.  We were pretty much first in line, though a hot-shot from another charter (to remain un-named) did try to one up us.  He almost “tagged” us as he tried to snuggle between us and the shore.  He gave up quickly, roundedRead More →

Welcome Aboard – Smitten Kitten at St. Martin Simpson Bay. Even though we arrived in St. Martin a few days early, our first night on the Smitten Kitten Catamaran was Saturday, the 16 of November.  One would think that it would be cold in November but the weather was a balmy 80F average during the day, the water around 83-85F, and the nights in the high 60’s to low 70’s.  Perfect for the snow dwellers or even for us desert dwellers from hot Arizona. The feature image of the Festiva Sailing trip was taken of Sandy Beach near Anguilla .  The aerial of St. Martin below isRead More →

We are on a fun holiday on the Catamaran Cruise this week with Jenny and Stuart of Festiva Sailing. Having a great time but with limited internet connection so most of my posts were scheduled ahead of time. That’s what a holiday is all about. Look for a recap of this great vacation in about a week. This picture is of Sandy Island and I took it several years ago.  Unfortunately, the shipwreck boat is no longer on the island.  It was lost in a big storm a few years ago. So sad to hear that it’s gone. Will also have great recipes including theRead More →

This is not the furry Cat you’re thinking about.  It’s a fine sailing yacht.  Now, my hubby Gus would be fine with the sailing but if he were faced with the feline cat that could be an issue.  We won’t go there though.  Instead.. lets talk about the water gliding Cat…  felines don’t like water. Our Cat set sale from  the British Virgin Islands which are in the Caribbean just east of Puerto Rico and makes it a fairly easy trip for us from Arizona.  BVI is located in the northeastern Caribbean and are known for their beauty and calm waters.  There are a multitude of excellent anchorages and offRead More →

Gus first learned to scuba dive at Lake Pleasant in Arizona. That’s were he was certified but he wasn’t impressed with his beginning dive in the lake. He said the water was murky and bitter cold there in the lake! Since this was just before we left for the Caribbean in April of that same year, I’m sure he wasn’t exaggerating. He is a bit of a wimp (like me) when it comes to cold weather or cold water. That’s why we love to vacation in the Caribbean warm waters. It was our maiden voyage to set sail on a four cabin catamaran that departed fromRead More →

Trellis Bay on Beef Island in the BVI is famous for its Full Moon Festival.  This monthly event which is a gathering of locals, sailing ship inhabitants and other fun finders out for an evening of dancing, drinking and festivities.   Locals in colorful garb balance way up high on stilts while dancing in the streets with anyone crazy enough to join them.  Of course, I was right there with them in the midst of the craze. The main theme is the Fireball Party which is the cultural event not to miss.  I was still using the Minolta DiMage Z1 so the images are not a crisp as I would likeRead More →
